Lesson 83

Teaching Aim

Review the usages of the attribute.

Teaching Important Points

1. Review the difference between the Past Participle and the v.-ing form when they are used as attribute.

2. Review the position of the attribute.

Teaching Difficult Points

Master the differences between the Past Participle and the v.-ing form when they are used as attributive.

Teaching Methods

1. Revision, explanation and inductive methods.

2. Doing lots of exercises for consolidation.

Teaching Procedures

Step 1  Revision

1  Check the homework exercises.

2  Do SB Page 52, Part 3. (If this was not done in the previous lesson.)

Step 2  Grammar study

SB Page 53, Part 1. Go through the Grammar study section with the class, getting students to translate the sentences. Do not spend time revising the simpler structures, as students should know these. Draw attention to any difficult points suggested below. If students have difficulty, do not spend too much time explaining. Instead, prepare a short revision exercise and produce it in class when you revise the grammatical category in the next lesson.

Step 3  Grammar practice

SB Page 53, Part 2. Explain to Ss that they must translate the Chinese part into English to complete the sentences. Do the first one orally with the whole class, then get Ss to work through the exercise in pairs. Check the answers at the end.

Answers:

1  with a broken leg

2  in Mr. Coal's mailbox

3  on the second floor

4  the unknown; sitting beside the detective

5  smiling

6  writing

7  to solve this difficult problem

8  about whether he has met the young woman

Step 4  Grammar practice

SB Page 53, Part 3. Explain to Ss that they must translate the phrases into Chinese. Get the Ss to work through the exercise in pairs, then check the answers at the end.

Answers:

Step 5  Workbook

Wb Lesson 83, Exx. 1 - 3.

Ex. 1 can be done orally in class. Get Ss to read and translate each sentence into Chinese. Point out the different word order of the Attribute in English and Chinese.

Ex. 2 is a word formation exercise. Remind the Ss to learn English words in clusters.

Go over the phrases in the box in Ex. 3. Then allow the Ss a few minutes to think of the answers.

Check the answers with the whole class.

Homework

Finish off the Workbook exercises.

Try to retell the story about Clare Flower.
