He has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle. During the hours when you labour through your work you may say that you're "hot". That's true. The time of day when you feel most energetic is when your cycle of body temperature is at its peak. For some people the peak comes during the forenoon. For others it comes in the afternoon or evening. No one has discovered why this is so, but it leads to such familiar monologues (自言自语) as: "Get up, John! You'll be late for work again!" The possible explanation to the trouble is that John is at his temperature-and-energy peak in the evening. Much family quarreling ends when husbands and wives realize what these energy cycles mean, and which cycle each member of the family has. You can't change your energy cycle, but you can learn to make your life fit it better. Habit can help, Dr Kleitman believes. Maybe you're sleepy in the evening but feel you must stay up late anyway. Counteract your cycle to some extent (程度) by habitually staying up later than you want to. If your energy is low in the morning but you have an important job to do early in the day, rise before your usual hour. This won't change your cycle, but you'll get up steam and work better at your low point. Get off to a slow start which saves your energy. Get up with a yawn (哈欠) and stretch. Sit on the edge of the bed a minute before putting your feet on the floor. Avoid the troublesome search for clean clothes by laying them out the night before. Whenever possible, do daily work in the afternoon and save tasks requiring more energy or concentration (集中) for your sharper hours. 41. If a person finds getting up early a problem, most probably ______. A. he is a lazy person B. he refuses to follow his own energy cycle C. he is at his peak in the afternoon or evening D. he is not sure when his energy is low 42. Which of the following may lead to family quarrels according to the passage? A. Having no idea of energy cycles. B. Familiar monologues. C. A change in a family member's energy cycle. D. Attempts control the energy of other family members. 43. If one wants to work more efficiently at his low point in the morning, he should ______. A. change his energy cycle B. overcome his laziness C. get up earlier than usual D. go to bed earlier 44. You are advised to rise with a yawn and stretch because it will _______. A. help to keep your energy for the day's work B. help you to control your temper early in the day C. enable you to concentrate on your daily work D. keep your energy cycle under control all day 45. Which of the following statements is NOT true? A. Getting off to work with a minimum (最少的) effort helps save one's energy. B. Dr Kleitment explains why people reach their peaks at different hours of day. C. Habit helps one fit his own energy cycle. D. You'd better get everything ready the night before if your energy peak is in the evening. B Frank Lloyd Wright probably is the greatest architect(建筑师)that the United States has ever produced . He was very talented and had a natural ability to design buildings. His buildings were not only beautiful, but they were also functional(实用的). They fit their purposes very well. Wright's churches, for example, make people feel like thinking and praying. His office buildings make people enjoy working, and his houses make people feel comfortable at home. However, Frank Lloyd Wright's beautiful, functional buildings are not the only reason that he is famous. There is another reason. Frank Lloyd Wright is called the greatest American architect because he started an American style in architecture. More of the architecture in the United States before Wright was really European, not American. Wright's buildings do not look like those in old European States and in other parts of the world. The most important idea in Frank Lloyd Wright's style of architecture is that a building must fit its purpose and the land around it. His houses are often called "grass-land houses" because their lines are similar to the lines on the grass-land. Both the lines of the grass-land and the lines of Wright's houses are parallel(平行的)to the horizon, the place where the earth and sky seem to meet. 46. The best title for this passage would be ______. A. The Influence (影响) of European Architecture on American Architecture B. The Buildings Designed by the Greatest Architect Frank Lloyd Wright C. The Influence of Architect Frank Lloyd Wright on American Architecture D. Frank Lloyd Wright's contribution (贡献)to the United States of America 47. The character of Wright's buildings can be best described as _______. A. they were plain outside and well designed inside B. they were beautiful in design and practical in use C. they were spacious and very functional D. they could be used as a church or an office building 48. It can be concluded that before Wright's time _______. A. American architecture hadn't formed its own style yet B. American architecture was mixed with modern style C. Most American houses were designed by Europeans D. Most houses were practical but no-good looking 49. The most important idea in Wright's style is ________. A. architecture should show a variety of designs B. a building must have a large grass-land around C. architecture design should fit its surroundings D. the style of a house is the most important in design 50. The style of Wright's "grass-land houses" is that _______. A. the houses appear to stand on the horizon B. the houses have many lines that are similar to the horizon C. the houses are built mainly on the grass-land D. the lines of the houses are similar to those on the grass-land V.短文改错(请同学在线上完成此题,并与参考答案对照)
